First of all...A big shout out to Super Fan Heather for all the "Awesome Eats" provided at the Event! Thx Heather!
It was another great day for Bocce. Koks predicted a "Mixed Bag" of weather for the day. The morning was beautiful but as it turns out there was a period where the skies got dark, and a tiny amount of rain came down. Just shortly after putting couch cushions away and moving things under cover the grey skies broke up and the sun returned for the remainder of the day.
After round robin play Friesen came out on top with a record of 6 and 0. Gerwing in second at 4 and 2. In a BHLISA first 3 players, Chet, Grant and Stan ended up with 3 and 3 records. A 3-way tie for the last 2 playoff positions. The decision was made that each of the 3 players would play 2 balls each in a sudden death end to determine 3rd and 4th places. The player who was furthest from the boch in the one end show down would be eliminated. Chet was ousted as he could not put it closer than Stan or Grant.
Page playoff matches set with Friesen and Gerwing facing off and the victor heading straight to the championship game. Stan and Grant would play one game, one player eliminated while the other faces the loser of Friesen and Gerwing for a shot to move on.
Stan held of Grant in the 3 - 4 game. Friesen took out Gerwing in the 1 - 2 matchup leaving Stan and Gerwing to duel and determine who would be sent off to the final against Friesen. Gerwing prevailed and and would face Friesen in the championship match.
The final game featured Friesen and Gerwing, both past champions of the Kenny Rogers Memorial Tournament.
Gerwing just could not catch up to Friesen’s early lead or match clutch shots made by Friesen who was "on" all day. Friesen went 8 - 0 on the day outclassing the competition to win the Kenny Rogers Memorial. Another note of interest is that Friesen is on a win streak of 15 - 0 with his last loss in game one of the May Long tournament.
